Societal Beliefs und Moral Disengagement in der Kampagne gegen Friedenskräfte im israelisch-palästinensischen Konflikt – Dokumentation der empirischen Befundlage. Nr. 80, 2017.
Abstract:
In einem Aufsatz „Zur Kampagne gegen Friedenskräfte im israelisch-palästinensischen Konflikt“, der in wissenschaft & frieden, Vol. 38, No. 3 (2017) erschienen ist, wurde anhand von fünf Vorfällen aus dem zweiten Halbjahr 2016 die Eignung von Natan Sharanskys (2004) 3 D-Test zur Identifizierung von antiisraelischem Antisemitismus in Frage gestellt und die These vertreten, dass sich die 3 Ds auch in der Argumentationsweise von Unterstützern der israelischen Palästinapolitik finden. Der vorliegende Arbeitsbericht dokumentiert die empirische Befundlage, auf der diese These beruht.

Antisemitismus und Israelkritik. Nr. 79, 2017.
Abstract:
Spätestens seit der Konferenz von Durban, auf der Israel der Apartheidpolitik bezichtigt wurde, macht das Wort von einem neuen Antisemitismus die Runde. Aber ist die zunehmende Kritik der israelischen Palästinapolitik wirklich nur und in jedem Fall Ausdruck von Antisemitismus?
Dies herauszufinden war das Ziel eines Surveys, das im Sommer und Herbst 2010 an einer repräsentativen Stichprobe von ca. 1000 Untersuchungsteilnehmern aus den alten und neuen deutschen Bundesländern sowie fast 500 aktiven Israelkritikern durchgeführt wurde und die typischen Muster rekonstruiert, zu denen sich die Wahrnehmung und Interpretation des israelisch-palästinensischen Konfliktes mit Vorurteilen gegenüber Juden und Israelis, Palästinensern und Arabern, mit den Konfliktkenntnissen und der emotionalen Nähe der Untersuchungsteilnehmer zu dem Konflikt sowie mit politischen Orientierungen wie Pazifismus, Menschenrechtsengagement und moralische Ablösung verbindet.
Als Ergebnis der Studie konnten vier verschiedene Spielarten von Unterstützung vs. Kritik identifiziert werden: Unterstützung der israelischen Politik, latent antisemitische Kritikvermeidung, antisemitische Israelkritik und menschenrechtsorientierte Israelkritik, die jegliche Art von Vorurteilen zurückweist und eine Friedenslösung im Interesse beider Gesellschaften anstrebt.

Media construction of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: The case of the German press and the German public. Nr. 78, 2014.
Abstract:
Based on the assumption that acceptance and effects of media frames depend on the audience's a priori understanding of the respective issue, the present paper combines findings of the Anti-Semitism and the Criticism of Israel (ASCI) survey with a series of content-analytical and experimental studies on the media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the German press. The results of the studies indicate that the short time effects of media peace frames must not be overestimated. In the long run, however, peace journalism will strengthen the peace forces within society, and reduce the share of hard-liners
on both sides.

Human rights orientation and the assessment of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Nr. 77, 2014.
Abstract:
Based on a concept of human rights commitment that includes both a cognitive (rejection of human rights restrictions) and an affective component (concern for the victims of human rights violations), the present paper uses Latent-Class Analysis in order to differentiate different forms of consistent and inconsistent human rights orientations, and relates them to participants’ assessments of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The results of the study indicate that a consistent human rights commitment promotes pacifism, reduces moral disengagement and counteracts anti-Palestinian as well as anti-Zionist and anti-Semitic attitudes. At the same time, however, it exerts pressur to take a position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it supports partisanship for the Palestinians, and it strengthens the tendency
to dramatize foreign affairs and to call for action against Israeli policy. Nonetheless, it reduces the tendency to a one-sided
attribution of guilt to Israel and decreases anti-Israeli attitudes that are directed against Jews in general and/or
restrict the rights of the Jews.

Der Holocaust im Film: Dokumentation des Untersuchungsmaterials einer quasi-experimentellen Studie. Nr. 76, 2013.
Abstract:
Filmischen Aufarbeitungen des Holocaust wurde wiederholt vorgeworfen, kontraindizierte Effekte zur Folge zu haben. Aufbauend auf dieser theoretischen Kritik wird ein Kodiermanual zur Inhaltsanalyse von TV-Dokumentationen und Filmen über den Holocaust vorgestellt. Dieses untergliedert sich in vier Bereiche zu (1) Quellen und Perspektiven, (2) Bezug zur Opferseite, (3) Bezug zur Täterseite und (4) formale Kriterien. Anschließend werden die Ergebnisse einer Inhaltsanalyse von sechs Filmausschnitten über den Genozid an den Juden während des NS-Regimes berichtet.

Documentation of the Anti-Semitism and the criticism of Israel (ASCI) survey. Nr. 75, 2013.
Abstract:
The present paper documents the questionnaire and results of a survey in Germany, with data collected during June – November 2010. Using probabilistic item response models, the survey analyzes the structure of anti-Semitic, anti-Zionist, anti-Israeli and anti-Palestinian attitudes and studies how they are distributed in the German population. It reconstructs the mental models according to which participants make meaning of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it differentiates between different forms of Israel-criticism and it investigates the effect of participants’ human rights orientation on anti-Semitic, anti-Zionist, anti-Israeli and anti-Palestinian attitudes, as well as moral disengagement and pacifism, knowledge about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the way how participants position themselves to the conflict.
Due to the complexity of the survey and the limited space available in peer-reviewed journals, it will be published in a series of articles, each of them focusing on theory, methodology and results of another aspect of the study – and even there, it will not be possible to report all of the statistical details that are reported here in an uncommented way.
